     LIVE OAK COUNTY, TEXAS     

HISTORICAL COMMISSION

 

WHEN:  Monday, April 15, 2019 - 5:30 to 7:30 PM

WHERE:  The Boardroom at SouthTrust Bank, on the Courthouse Square,

Enter building at 601 Guadalupe Street, George West, Live Oak County, Texas

 

The Live Oak County Historical Commission may discuss and/or take action

on any of the following items:

 

1.  Call the meeting to order; ask everyone to stand, face our flags and recite the U. S. and Texas pledges.

2.  Introduce visitors and ask them if anyone wishes to address the Commission.  We expect Nano Calderon, CHC Outreach Specialist, with the Texas Historical Commission, to join us.

3.  Introduction of new appointee, Charlotte Schroeder.

4.  Harris to review information provided by Judge Huff regarding future appointments of   appointees.

5.  Presentation by Secretary Glynis Holm Strause of January 15, 2019 minutes and vote  by Appointees to accept same.

6.  Reports of officers and chairs of standing committees:

            * Treasurer Leslie Walker.

                        Financial Report.

            * Marker Chair Richard Hudson.

                        Report on pending and future marker projects.

                        Status of historical markers inventory and where needed, refurbishing.      

            * Webmaster Janis Hudson’s Report which includes consideration of new pro-                                          posal by current website host company, 1&1 lonos.

            * Oral History Chair Glynis Holm Strause’s Report.

            * Archeology/Endangered Properties Chair Jim Warren’s Report.

            * Publicity Chair Richard Hudson's Report.

            * Education Chair Bernadette Cardona Gibson’s Report.

            * Cemetery Chair Sherry Kosarek’s Report and a correction to an earlier report.

            * Hospitality Chair Mary Margaret Dougherty Campbell’s Report.

7.   Leslie Walker's report on the relocation of marker honoring DPS undercover agent                            Patrick Allen Randel.

8.   Report by Peggy Skoruppa on meeting with county cemeteries to discuss 2019

      Wreaths Across America ceremonies.

9.   Discuss work plans and develop one for this Commission. (A work plan defines

      project tasks, participants, time estimates, and a schedule.)

10. Ask if any Appointee(s) wish to address the Commission.

11. Work sessions, if needed, for the standing committees.

12. Adjournment.

February 1, Friday   "Live Oak County History Library" added to the LOCHC website with a digitized copy of The People's History of Live Oak County, Texas by Evin L. Sparkman.

 

February 20, Wednesday at SouthTrustBank, 5:30 in George West, LOCHC Chair, Ross Harris, hosted  a meeting with appointees and representatives from LOC cemeteries to share more about their annual opportunity to participate in Wreaths Across America, a well-attended memorial service held in Oakville last December.

 

February 26, Tuesday  LOC Judge Huff hosted LOCHC at the capitol in Austin in meeting with Senator Zaffirini and Representative Ryan Guillen PLUS Susan Gammage, THC's Architect and Assistant Director of the THC's Courthouse Program, to discuss current renovation of the Live Oak County Courthouse.

March 26, Friday  A Reading Guide for Live Oak County, Texas by Kurt House - Curator, Live Oak County Historical Commission digitized and added to LOCHC website under Live Oak County History Library.

The Honorable Jim Huff, County Judge for Live Oak County, welcomes you to the Live Oak County Historical Commission (LOCHC) Website. The Live Oak County Historical Commission is an arm of the Live Oak County Commissioners' Court; appointees are selected at the beginning of odd numbered years and serve two year terms. Judge Huff and the Live Oak County Commissioners support and approve actions of the LOCHC in coordination with the Texas Historical Commission (THC).
